Re: Italy Visits,Wineries & Restaurant Recommendations

Do you want to do wineries in the area only or are you willing to do a little outside the area? Say Montalcino?

Good stuff Gary. Thanks. Yes, we'd sure be willing to scout around some. We will have car rentals.

Not sure how much you want to do but here is a link to the Consorzio. Pretty much all the producers are listed.

Re: Italy Visits,Wineries & Restaurant Recommendations

The lunch and tasting at Avignonesi is amazing, I have done it 3 times and each time the food was terrific (the wines too). Be prepared to spend 3-4 hours.

In Montalcino, Uccelleria is an absolute must visit- one of the best visits we had in our 3 years living in Italy. However, essentially little to no English spoken (I was lucky in that my wife speaks Italian). We thought we had made an appointment for tasting only but Andrea Cortonesi insisted we stay for lunch, made by his momma- one of the most extraordinary meals of my life.

In Piedmont, Enoteca Grand Vini just off the Piazza Duomo in Alba is an amazing wine shop with a most wonderful owner and proprietor, Enrico. He speaks very good English, will ship wine purchases anywhere, and has great recommendations for local restos and wineries to visit.

              Enjoy!

I did lunch with Andrea and his mom a couple of years ago. I am still a little full from it. Great wines.

If you are looking for wine in Alba, you need to check out this shop.
