  • What was your game changer??

Everyone has a wine that changed their outlook. Mine was a 1987 Montelena. I can remember everything about the wine, the setting...everything. It was transformational. What was yours.....????

    78 Arnoux Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots
79 Latour and a couple of others
    80 Mondavi Reserve

There were a couple of others, but I did begin to realize that wine was not just Mouton Cadet.

86 BV Cabernet (the regular old bottling) - had it out at a business dinner when I was just out of college and I thought, whoa, I get it now. I remember thinking that tannin was great (although I didn't know the name for it at the time).

1991 Ravenswood single vineyard zins, especially Old Hill and Belloni. All 4 had such a unique personality. Still my reference point for zin along with the 1997 Turley Black Sears.

'83 Lafaurie-Peyraguey Sauternes. Up to the time I first tasted it, I had no idea anything could taste like that.

1991 Silver Oak Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon NAPA - the stories seem so similar to all of us only the wine changes. I remember vividly the time, place, who was there, what the wine tasted/smelled like ... I never looked back.
Wine gets better with age - the older I get, the more I like it.

1997 Chateau St Jean Cinq Cepages. That night also sparked my culinary awakening. Remember it like it was yesterday.

A 1954 Rioja - damned if I can remember the name of it - in 1992 at an off-line in Massachusetts.

Honestly, too many to list - but a Masseto merlot from Italy had to be among them; as well as a '91 La Mouline.
