  • TN: 2005 Poggio il Castellare Brunello di Montalcino

    • 2005 Poggio il Castellare Brunello di MontalcinoDrank from a magnum (cheap!). Decanted for about 3 h before tasting. Dusty red cherries, earth, leather, tobacco and anise greets the nose. The palate is rich, layered and ripe with cherry liquer, licorice, leather and faint cigar notes in the background. The wine is better than what I expected but the high alcohol makes its presence in the hot finish. Showed rather well with classic tuscan fare for dinner. (90 pts.)
